For more than two decades, Lettuce has brought a new vitality to classic funk, matching their smooth and soulful grooves with a hip-hop-inspired urgency and mastery of beat. Scofield is a masterful jazz improviser with a very distinctive sound whose music generally falls somewhere between post-bop, funk-edged jazz and R&B. In Marina Del Rey…Join filmmaker STEVEN ORITT for his documentary American Native, telling the story of the Ramapough Lenape Indians, a tribe shrouded in mystery and living just 30 minutes from New York City, as they fight for recognition as Native Americans. This free film series, Identities, welcomes three extraordinary filmmakers affiliated with Venice Arts, each exploring the notion of identity in different ways. Designed to inspire Venice Arts’ teen artists, who are also making art around this theme, the series is open to the public. LAUNCH LA hosts a closing art party and talk for “Paradox California,” a two-person exhibition featuring works by mixed-media artist Chelsea Dean and photographer Osceola Refetoff; The two artists were paired for the show because of their mutual enthusiasm for the deserts of Southern California. Refetoff and Dean collaborated on the show’s title, which addresses the contradiction between the promise of paradise to be found in the “Golden State,” and the harsh realities of much of its terrain and opportunities. March 23, 2019:
Kayne Griffin Corcoran presents three exhibitions opening tonight. Enjoy the historic work by Los Angeles-born, New York-based artist David Novros. This will be the first exhibition of the artist with the gallery and his first in Los Angeles in three decades. On view will be a selection of works conceived of in the 1960s—including paintings exhibited in his first solo shows at Dwan Gallery and Park Place Gallery (both 1966).

“Three Concrete Sculptures,” a project with New York-based artist Sarah Crowner will be exhibited in the gallery’s courtyard. This presentation with the gallery, as the title suggests, will comprise of three concrete sculptures. Also opening tonight is a solo-exhibition of work by Ken Price. This is the third exhibition of the artist with the gallery and will comprise of works on paper ranging from 1967-1995.
