In Santa Monica…BergamotStation

Head out early to Bergamot Station for some early art events….There are several taking place early…

Enjoy an artist talk today at 3 p.m. at TAG Gallery with Carole Garland, Suki Kuss, Elyse Wyman.

See image: Carole Garland, Ferris Oil on Canvas 48x36in.

In her latest show, Carole Garland focuses on the variability of the Santa Monica Pier as a spectrum of illumination throughout the day and into the night.

Suki Kuss embarks on a personal journey in her latest exhibition, Small Offerings. Putting aside her previously used vintage materials such as lace, patterns, sheet music and reflective surfaces, Kuss limits herself to only immediately accessible and basic materials in her studio.

In her latest series, Elyse Wyman combines painting and photography to explore the crepuscular transition of day to night. These mixed media works showcase the ephemeral nature of the cyclical rhythms of the earth, as light is filtered through a haze of clouds, mist and pollution in and around the Los Angeles area.

For more detailed info about these artists, see our Artists & Exhitions Page.

Los Angeles based artist Deedee Cheriel transforms personal experience into folklore through an amalgam of influences both personal and universal. East Indian Art, spirituality, environmentalism, ritual, and landscapes of the Pacific Northwest all inform the artist’s work and give context to often-personal narratives.

Audrey Kawasaki began her artistic career in her native Los Angeles, after attending Pratt Institute in NY. Moments in the artist’s personal life inform both subject matter and context for her paintings, with strong line work and delicate oils blending seamlessly onto naturally grained wood panels.

In Culver City…

Koplin Del Rio Gallery hosts an opening reception for a joint venture, “LA/Seattle: I-5 Connects II.” Los Angeles/Seattle is a gallery exchange program with Prographica in Seattle, WA.

A fifteen year professional relaSat-Aug2-KoplindelRiotionship between directors, Eleana Del Rio and Norman Lundin resulted in a collaborative exhibition venture between their two galleries in 2010.

A discussion began when Prographica opened its doors in Seattle in 2010. The gallery represented nationally recognized and emerging artists with an emphasis on artists of the Northwest. As Prographica grew it developed a unique exhibition model similar to that of a repertory theatre, wherein the work of gallery and invited artists is showcased in solo, two-person & thematic shows. With this model came the opportunity to share gallery artists with KDR and build careers in both locations.

While each gallery will continue to maintain its individual identity, the collaboration will function as an annex, building upon the expansion of two distinct programs.

On view: August 2nd – August 30th
