Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start to summer. Celebrating 45 years, Topanga Days celebrates forty-five years this weekend.

The annual festival offers two stages featuring musical acts, contests, games, art vendors, food, Fun Zone, and a parade. The main stage features well known acts such as Milo Greene, X, Breakestra – check the website for the full schedule. The Topanga Days Memorial Day Parade takes place along Route 27 (Topanga Canyon Boulevard) on Monday morning. This year’s Grand Marshal is actor Jason Momoa. Single day, non-member tickets are priced at $25 with various options for three-day passes, kids, seniors and military. On Memorial Day, all members of the armed forces (past and present) with military I.D. receive free entrance to the Festival. Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend by heading to Hermosa Beach for the 46th Annual Fiesta Hermosa. Enjoy a beer and wine garden, a food court, art and craft booths, and a kid’s carnival. This event features artisans of all types, painters, photographers, sculptors, and jewelry designers. Building Bridges Art Exchange holds an opening reception for “HOX Zodiac,” a collaborative project between an artist and neuroscientist since 2008. Based on the Chinese animal zodiac and the Hox gene, it has evolved into a “dinner” that addresses through experience and dialogue our deep relationship with animals as companions, food and lab experiments. Santa Monica Art Studios (SMAS) hosts the 11th annual event for ARTRIBE Los Angeles. An annual student-run gallery event showcasing high schoolers’ visual art and music to benefit the SPIRAL Foundation. Operating since 2007, ARTRIBE has generated hundreds of thousands dollars, all of which has been returned to Vietnam and Nepal to fund much-needed humanitarian aid programs. Downtown…Track 16 Gallery present Sandow Birk and Elyse Pignolet’s “American Procession,” a panorama of American icons and ideology.

The project was executed on two seventeen foot long woodblock prints plus a “title page” woodblock print. Pignolet and Birk will also be exhibiting individual works including a new series of #metoo ceramics by Pignolet and lithographs and etchings by Birk. Catalyze opens tonight at Atche Art Space. The multicultural show is a part of the Shed Collective. Catalyze features a 2-person show with Los Angeles artists, Dani Dodge and Chenhung Chen. Also on view: Scott Froschauer will be exhibiting one of his well-known reassuring street signs and an outdoor, interactive installation by artists, Ching Ching Cheng and Diane Williams.
