Just across the street…at Blum & Poe, Part II of “Parergon: Japanese Art of the 1980s and 1990s” curated by Mika Yoshitake, opens tonight with a special performance by EYE. Using a laptop, contact mic, and light sensors he utilizes his DJ style and compiles simulated recordings (i.e. rocks falling in gorges) and music from a variety of genres (dub, tribal, ambient, hip hop, reggae, etc.) into kinesthetic experience. The Japan House and Blum & Poe co-present an artist roundtable an an exclusive lecture. Japanese postwar art historian Mika Yoshitake will sit down with three of the most prolific and important artists working during this period – Kenjiro Okazaki, Yukinori Yanagi and Kenji Yanobe to discuss their work and the overlapping themes in Japanese art from this era. The discussion will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
