Break the Floor Productions in partnership with The Montalbán in Hollywood present MOVES at The Montalbán, a festival that offers audiences the chance to see the latest emerging talent in the world of choreography and dance. Over the course of the inaugural festival’s three-day engagement the inside of the historic theatre will host engaging live dance performances while dance classes will abound on The Montalbán’s rooftop deck. Downtown…The Bendix Building offers several art parties and one of the gallery exhibitions at Durden and Ray is one of LAArtParty’s top ten events. Head to the fifth floor to Tiger Strikes Asteroid (#523). “MATERIAL GIRLS” present “Palms,” the collective’s first show in LA featuring small sculptures by 15 artists. As art viewers, we all know that we should “look but not touch” the art, however in this instance, we are encouraged to touch hold, and move the objects within the context of the exhibition. UCLA’s Center for the Art of Performance (CAP UCLA) presents “An Evening with Lettuce & John Scofield” at The Theatre at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles. For more than two decades, Lettuce has brought a new vitality to classic funk, matching their smooth and soulful grooves with a hip-hop-inspired urgency and mastery of beat. For their performance at the Ace, Lettuce will be joined by legendary guitarist John Scofield. Scofield is a masterful jazz improviser with a very distinctive sound whose music generally falls somewhere between post-bop, funk-edged jazz and R&B. In Marina Del Rey…Join filmmaker STEVEN ORITT for his documentary American Native, telling the story of the Ramapough Lenape Indians, a tribe shrouded in mystery and living just 30 minutes from New York City, as they fight for recognition as Native Americans. This free film series, Identities, welcomes three extraordinary filmmakers affiliated with Venice Arts, each exploring the notion of identity in different ways.
