Here is a list of Staff Picks for the Best Halloween Events in LA. And lets not forget Día de los Muertos also called the Day of the Dead. Most of these events are kid friendly (the scary ones – over 12 years). Although the first one gets a little wild, as well as the Dia Del La Muertes evening event at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

West Hollywood’s Halloween Carnaval is back! It’s free to attend and will take place on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 from 6:00pm to 11:00pm on a one-mile stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard between N. Doheny Drive and N. La Cienega Boulevard. Staged on Santa Monica Boulevard/Historic Route 66, Halloween Carnaval will feature a stage at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and N. San Vicente Boulevard with a live DJ set, food trucks and thousands of wildly dressed Halloween revelers for a one-of-a-kind experience. 2023 Halloween in LA

The Haunted Hayride returns. We have been listing this event since its early days, prior to its appearance on Shark Tank.  watching this homegrown event explode has been amazing. Wander through the backwoods of Midnight Falls. Then embrace the legend of a cannibalistic family bringing the spirit of Halloween as they dish out diabolical tricks and scary treats. The Witch of the Woods cast a spell to bring forth the spirits of this holiday. Meet the ghoulish locals from Midnight Falls as you enter the mortuary, and feel the heat of the fire.

Santa Monica Pier celebrates the day with Return of the Monarch on October 28, 2023, from 12:00pm – 9:00pm. All ages are welcome and invited to join in the festivities that include face painting, live music, delectable food, spirited dancing, and much more. DIA DE LOS MUERTOS Events

On October 28, 2023, two Dia de los Muertos events take place at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. In addition to an early event (more for the kids), there is also a night time huge event. Be aware the first event ends at 3pm and EVERYONE must leave, prior to the next event. As always the events are produced by the Lady of the Dead (see website below).

Running from October 21 thru November 2, 2023: Grand Park’s Downtown Día de los Muertos is back this year.

Honoring the people, places as well as ideas that merit adoration and commemoration, Gloria Molina Grand Park’s 12th annual Downtown Día de los Muertos welcomes park-goers to pay reverence at 19 altars created by professional artists and local community organizations. Attendees can also contribute to the annual community altar specifically created for this year. The 20th altar honors the victims of gun violence in Monterey Park and also those who perished in Maui’s wildfires.
