Fahey/Klein Gallery presents “YOUNG BLOOD,” featuring the art of Brendan Pattengale, Chad Pitman, Cope-Arnold, Torkil Gudnason. The color of blood is influenced by the amount of oxygen it possesses. The closer to the arteries, the brighter the red. The further it gets from those arteries, the darker the red.  Fahey/Klein Gallery is pleased to present “Young Blood” a group show featuring four young artists working within the tradition of color photography. These photographers are embracing traditional dark room techniques while pushing the boundaries of the digital color print. Each artist is using the medium to investigate the new directions of color photography with the vigor and the dedication of a scientist looking for a cure. Fahey/Klein Gallery is looking forward to the opportunity to invigorate these artists with the oxygen they need to help their color work shine brightly. February 16 – April 8, 2017; On view: 7-9pm; http://www.faheykleingallery.com/

Renowned for her savvy, sometimes ambiguous use of heterogeneous representational strategies to engage with complex cultural issues, Peggy Ahwesh has sustained one of the most profound voices in experimental media. Her latest works emerge from her time living in Palestinian communities in the West Bank: The visual essays Alluvium (2015) and Kissing Point (2014) portray parallel worlds existing within a single geography, while Lessons of War (2015) and The Blackest Sea (2016) repurpose animated news reports into darkly poetic visions of calamity. The Alpert Award winner’s oeuvre includes celebrated feminist works such as Martina’s Playhouse (1989), Strange Weather (1993) and She Puppet (2001). Curated by Steve Anker and Bérénice Reynaud as part of the Jack H. Skirball Series. El Camino College Art Gallery is pleased to present “PERSONAL MATTERS,” featuring the work of thirteen Southern California artists. Emerging from a rich art historical tradition of works representing private experience – Frida Kahlo, Vincent Van Gogh and Max Beckmann to name a few- the artists in this exhibit depict their own experiences.  In a time of emphasis on merchandising and mass media it seems particularly important to recognize individual lives, struggles, love, courage, humor and cultural differences as lived and portrayed on the personal level. This exhibition explores the realm of the intimate in a broad variety of media, creating an opportunity for the viewer to glimpse the individual artist’s circumstance and psyche.
