On May 23, 2026, The Broad presents Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind. This is the first solo museum exhibition for the artist in Southern California. Organized with Tate Modern, the exhibition will continue her exploration of peace, imagination, and collective connection. It features interactive installations, films, performances, and text-based works.

The retrospective highlights Ono’s influential “instruction” pieces. These works encourage audiences to complete actions through short written prompts. Furthermore, visitors will view typescript drafts from her 1964 book Grapefruit, which gathers over 200 conceptual instructions involving music, poetry, painting, and events. The show will also activate participatory works such as Painting to Hammer a Nail. Thus allowing audiences to engage directly with the artwork.
Meanwhile, the museum’s olive trees will transform into Wish Trees for Los Angeles community. Here guests can tie written wishes to branches. Shoshana Wayne Gallery first presented this installation in 1996. The exhibition will also include the artist’s peace campaigns and anti-war activism with Acorn Event and Bed Peace. These were both created with her late husband John Lennon.
The Broad will be hosting even more programs in conjunction with Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind. In addition to a billboard artwork installation highlighting the artist’s message of peace across LA, performances will take place at LACP, REDCAT, as well as on East West Bank Plaza at The Broad.
