I can tell you first hand that Robert Berman is ONE of THE most knowledgeable dealers in the art world today. He has owned an operated SANTA MONICA AUCTIONS since 1984 and continues to add to his own personal collection. When asked which work he would keep for his own collection, he said it would be this Pettibon. “The Raymond Pettibon is arguably a holy grail by Pettibon – it was used for the original album cover for Sonic Youth, their album titled “Goo”. People will likely recognize this and understand how great and rare this drawing is,” said Robert Berman, owner of the SANTA MONICA AUCTIONS.

Just a month ago, it was reported in the news that several Andy Warhol prints were stolen from a Missouri museum. I’m talking about the prints – not the paintings…which have become incrdibly valuable.  See my article in the Argonaut Newspaper about the Warhol currently part of the SANTA MONICA AUCTIONS catalogue. “We have one of Warhol’s incredible silk screens (from the same lot that was recently stolen from a museum in Missouri) – in mint condition and has never seen the light of day,” said Berman. ”We also have a rare nude called Maybelle by Robert Maplethorpe…one of ten…probably worth 30,000 to 40,000.”
