Today…at 4:20pm, join the parade and celebrate the life of Cosmo Goffredo! I never knew his last name…just knew him as Cosmo. I met him shortly after arriving in Venice in 1999. He was good friends with the first man that I dated (20 years my senior) in Venice after my longtime marriage in NYC had ended.
Venice was the much needed change I was ready to experience. It was amazing…with all of its characters and Cosmo was one of those characters. A Joe Pesci type, Cosmo would crack me up every time I saw him strolling down Abbot Kinney or the Venice Boardwalk. He was working…yes we all knew. But he was always friendly and generous…a good guy. We shared our New York connection.
Cosmo touched so many people…he was a longtime fixture in Venice. If you knew him or only knew of him, come out and celebrate his life. I have always believed a successful life is marked by how positively we can affect the people around us….Cosmo did that for sure!
A close friend of Cosmo’s, Annie Siqueiros opened her home and helped Cosmo transition. It was a beautiful, peaceful scene with friends gathered around him, one playing harp, others telling stories…celebrating his life as he left this earth.
Today, Sunday, August 28, Annie and friends have organized a celebration/parade for his final send-off. Come celebrate Cosmo at 4:20pm today (Sunday) at Rose Avenue and Ocean Front Walk in Venice….See the FB Event page for more info. RSVP by August 25 to email@example.com
In Silver lake…
Neutra Institute Gallery and Museum Silver Lake hosts a closing reception for “A Clandestine History of Art,” a solo show by Robyn Alatorre. Curated by Dion Neutra and Dulce Stein, the closing reception will be held from 3pm until 6pm with an artist talk with Robyn Alatorre and writer Genie Davis, of Diversions L.A.
About the Show
Imagine an alternative history of art. One that refuses to follow the conventions of culture in a world where chronology has no meaning. Imagine a clandestine collection of art that redefines history.
About the Artist
“The Clandestine History of Art” is artworks created by Robyn Alatorre over the course of several years as she explored popular culture through the ages. Her surreal paintings combine the styles and subject matter of past art movements with commercial objects from our contemporary world.
