In 2013 LA-based artist Kenny Scharf started his Karbombz! project. Scharf painted 260 cars around the world, about 100 of which are in Los Angeles. On September 26, 2020, Scharf has invited all of the Karbombz! drivers in Los Angeles to participate in a Karbombz! Rally which will take place along Santa Monica Boulevard between San Vicente Boulevard and Sycamore Avenue. The event takes place from 1-1:30pm.

Karbombz! range from beat up jalopies to luxury brands. The drivers come from all walks of life. Owners connect with Scharf on the street, in front of his murals, through other drivers and through Instagram. They are painted by Scharf free.

The Jeffrey Deitch Gallery is currently featuring two hundred fifty new paintings of faces by Kenny Scharf. All ll of them different. The gallery is located at the end of the rally route and will be open for viewing under social distancing protocols.

“One very important and guiding principle to my work is to reach out beyond the elitist boundaries of fine art and connect to popular culture through my art. My personal ambition has always been to live the example,” says Scharf.
