In the Miracle Mile area…

Launch LA is proud to present a two-perSat-Oct8-2016-LAUNCH-NanoRubio-Saturationson show of new work by Ana Rodriguez and Nano Rubio. The show combines abstract works from two artists who work magic with paint, color, and composition.

See image: Nano Rubio, Saturation, acrylic on canvas, 30″ x 24″

Ana Rodriguez brings a selection of untitled paintings grouped together under the title “Abominable Gift Baskets.” Vivid colors and playful composition evoke magical adventures of imagination. Confectionery, yet unsavory, Rodriguez fills her work with the nostalgia of hometowns that lay next to the toxic landscape of America’s chemical industrial complex.

Nano Rubio’s new work is a visual reference to hard edge painting, derived from action painting. Titled “Hard and Fast,” Rubio uses rigid, straight lines against labored, masked areas of color, activity signaling the human condition and sexuality. Intense and painterly, Rubio’s work speaks to individuality submerged by the technological revolution.

Starting at 3 pm

BLAM presents “Shift and Fade,” a group show curated by Dani Dodge and Alanna Marcelletti. The title “Shift and Fade” is based on the poem “The Secret of Light” by James Wright.

See image: Camilla Taylor, Overnight Guest, Cartonnage, Dimensions variable upon installation, (53Sat-Oct8-2016-BLAM-CamillaTaylor.jpg heads), 2016

Tying all the works together is deep personal connection – each piece uses material as a metaphor for the artist’s history.
