Tonight, Figtree’s Cafe continues to show the work of Michael Temple. Mike is probably best known as the founder and percussionist of The Bonedaddys. However, art has always been part of his life. He talks about his process, “I approach painting in a non-objective way. The viewer, however, is often able to construct their own narrative; seeing abstracted objects, messages and events that are unintended by me.”
Temple strives to create paintings that are perception-sharpening tools, and as such exist as a sort of ‘gameboard’ that welcomes the viewer to participate in an act of re-creation.
He adds, “My imagery is often constructed with strokes which I refer to as ‘Lowerglyphics.’ Lowerglyphics are a written expression that speaks to the subconscious because they stop short of describing common, recognized symbols. They encourage the mind to fill-in-the-blanks. Lowerglyphics are the units I use to construct the non-objective/abstract cosmology that informs my work.”
Enjoy complimentary wine here. Also Happy Hour specials will be available for sale.
