The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center hosts an opening reception tonight. The new exhibition is entitled Electric Summer: The Art of Nona Hendryx and Gina Raphaela.

Gina Raphaela’s art is color-filled, passionate, expressing sense memories of her vibrant Sicilian heritage. She is the co-founder of Art For Shelters, which seeks to install art in shelters throughout NYC and beyond.

Best known for her work in music (Labelle), Nona Hendryx utilizes digital technology in her artwork, finding that new media has reawakened her love of drawing and painting with prolific and wonderful results. The event will include a music performance by Nona Hendryx! (Labelle, “Lady Marmalade”).
