“Oh Little China Girl”… is loosely based on David Bowie’s lyrics, China Girl.
China Girl is the muse. She comforts, she soothes. She is no fool. “Oh Baby, just you shut your mouth”… Turn off the world. Be quiet and observe. I have something to say.
This Pop Up exhibition explores 12 women artist’s’ views of herself as Muse. A muse unto herself, on her own power, creating her own space.
Artists include: Shula Singer-Arbel, Sabrina Armitage, Andree B. Carter, Emma Dunlavey, lucie Hinden, Eliza Day-Green, Aileen Imperatrice, Peggy Nichols, Sierra Pecheur, Peggy Sivert, Shelli Tollman and Melora Walters.
Eliza Day-Green’s artwork was is on the flyer. “Urban Scrawl with Snow Monkeys” is a mixed media piece on cardboard. She explains, “I was inspired to do these cardboard works after looking at a lot of Cuban art that through necessity uses salvaged materials. I like the idea that something utilitarian and everyday like cardboard can be repurposed to become a beautiful vehicle for artistic expression.”
Eliza continued, “Peggy Nichols is the owner and curator of the gallery and she does a wonderful job promoting women artists in LA.”
