Up and coming country-pop singer-songwriter Ashley Cooke performs at the El Rey tonight. Her song “Your Place” hit No. 1 on country radio, and also “Never Til Now” charted on the Billboard Country Airplay. The latter song is a duet featuring the talented Brett Young. Moreover, she has performed at the Grand Ole Opry, and also toured with Luke Bryan and others.

One Gallery hosts an art talk featuring Los Angeles Gay Liberation Front (GLF) Activist Carolyn Weathers and Sara Angevine. The discussion will focus on Weathers’ impact on LA Queer History and her work with GLF.

In 1970 she was one of the activists who interrupted a program on electroshock therapy as a cure for homosexuality at the American Psychiatric Association’s convention at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. Therefore affecting important change in how homosexuality was looked at. Dubbed the “Biltmore Invasion,” this action led to the eventual declassification of homosexuality as a mental illness.
