Culver City Arts Festival is back for its 8th iteration. There will be all types of fun artsy things to see and to do. Plus some activities for kids too. It runs on Washington Boulevard. Be sure to stop at Helms Design Center, Room & Board Show Room, as well as the Helms Walk for a culinary stroll. Venice
Taking place each month on the second Saturday, is the Venice Pier Block Party. The event begins as a beach clean-up, which is so important. Then later in the day it features live music, arts and crafts vendors. One of my writers attended this event and said it was a bit lame. However he may have went on a bad day. Also in Venice…Dogtown Artists United presents Venice Afterburn once again held at Windward Plaza in Venice Beach today and tomorrow. The two day event serves as an official Burning Man Regional event that will help burners re-integrate back into their community.

Attendees will enjoy immersive art as well as mutant vehicles, fire dancing, theme camps, performances and lots more. This year mutant vehicles include: the People’s Banana, Vibeapple, Kuker, Tikivision, Minibago and Daddy Long Wheels, along with several roaming mini art cars. Remember the event encourages attendees to participate in the Afterburn – so come dressed and ready to party! Shatto Gallery, in collaboration with Gallery H debut Reimagining the Moon Jar. The group show features Contemporary Visions of Korea’s Iconic Moon Jar.

Artists include: Chung Sook Sohn, Hajeong Rogers, In Sook Park, Joong Sik Kim, Manchul Oh, and Yejin Shin. The Korean moon jar, or dalhangari has much meaning in Korea culture. It is one of the defining forms of Joseon-era white porcelain. CMAY Gallery debuts Beyond the Wave by John Van Hamersveld. The exhibition highlights the well known Souther CA artist’s transformation of the wave from recognizable image into abstraction. Van Hamersveld has worked across multiple forms of art such as graphic design, music, surfing, printmaking, fine art etc., for the past sixty years.
