AlsSat-Sept19-EdwardCella-RuthPastineo happening during the day at Edward Cella….take a tour of Ruth Pastine’s solo exhibition, “The Inevitability of Truth” with the artist.

The exhibition features the progression of Pastine’s ongoing investigation into furthering the limits of experience through fluctuating boundaries, relationships, and the structure of color. Now defined by distinct frameworks of banding, Pastine’s new color field paintings transcend and offset the picture plane. Pastine creates paintings through a highly refined process of building layer upon layer of oil paint on canvas.

In this intimate tour of her exhibition, Pastine will offer new insights about her most recent body of work.

Another at Bergamot…

Sat-Sept19-BuildingBridgesIn a joint effort by Alex Art Gallery Prague, Building Bridges Art Exchange and the General Consulate of the Czech Republic, “Czech-in LA” is to be unveiled in the opening reception at the BBAX Bergamot Station Art Complex, Saturday, September 19th.

“Tradition meets revolution in this fascinating and captivating group exhibition featuring new contemporary art from the Czech Republic. Far from monolithic in mediums or styles, these artists are shown to speak diverse languages of sculpture and painting ranging from the lyrical and abstract, to the tumultuous and gestural, to the overtly, boldly political.

Although it’s undeniable that the current generation of emerging artists, coming of age after the political upheaval of the 1990s, will have been finding their voices in response to those new political and social realities, nevertheless theirs is not an art that breaks with history, but rather, seeks to reconcile the Old Europe culture of magic and beauty with the violent reality that birthed modern Europe’s zeitgeist of global modernity.
Theirs is a radically hybrid vision engaged in refashioning and reevaluating the past, reimagining art history as responsive to the edge of tomorrow.” Shana Nys Dambrot, Art Critic.

CHIMENTO CONTEMPORARY is pleased to announce its inaugural exhibition “Mutual Entanglements” with new work by Los Angeles-based artist Sandeep Mukherjee.

See image: Sandeep Mukherjee (Detail), 2015, Acrylic on duralene, 7 feet x 50 feet

For over a decade Mukherjee’s work has considered the notion of abstraction as a method to make moving pictures of thought. Pursuing multiple paths via portraiture, the performing body, architecture as folding, and erasure as abstraction, the work continues to explore the tension between process, affect and representation.

In this large site-sensitive installation, a series of ten paintings inhabit the entire length of two adjacent walls as they meet in a corner of the architecture.
