The Museum of Neon Art (MONA) hosts a one-night-only art party and celebration to give thanks to those whose generosity and curiosity buoyed the museum through the darkest period of the pandemic lockdown. The “40 Years of Light” celebration takes place on Friday, March 11, 2022, from 5pm – 8pm. The event is FREE to the Public, but RSVPs are Strongly Encouraged! Remember to confirm with gallery for up-to-date covid protocols and guidelines – (proof of vaccination and masks MAY be required).

The party celebrates the final weeks of the exhibition “40 Years of Light” which features contemporary pieces of neon art crafted by MONA’s some of the key founding figures in the neon arts movement and the artists who continue to sustain and drive the vision of MONA today. The event will also be an opportunity to celebrate the belated 40th anniversary of the museum’s founding in 1981.

The festivities will commence with a brief outdoor ceremony to honor the staff, patrons, and members of local government who ensured the museum’s survival during a time when cultural spaces were closing around the world. After the ceremony, attendees will be invited into the museum galleries for a series of 5 minute artist talks. Artists include Michael Flechtner, Linda Sue Price,  Roxy Rose, and David Svenson. Party-goers will then be invited to partake in a celebratory cake-cutting as well as enjoy the Museum of Neon Art’s galleries.

For members, the evening will also mark the soft opening of MONA’s “Sign Garden,” an outdoor exhibition space in the museum’s former parking lot where visitors can enjoy the growing collection of unrestored neon signs.
