The Braid (a global, non-profit theater group) and dnj Gallery are happy to announce their upcoming multi-media, group exhibition—a fundraiser for Magen David Adom (emergency medical services in Israel). The benefit group exhibition titled Finding Beauty Throughout is curated by Pamela Schoenberg. An opening art party takes place on Sunday, December 3, 2023, from 11am – 3pm. This is a one-day event, so don’t miss it.

Magen David Adom Fundraiser at dnj Gallery

Lucy Green came from Israel a week after the October 7th attack with her art in a portfolio and in a small suitcase that she dragged through airports. She came to Los Angeles to find help for her family back home and to further support the people of Israel. Finding Beauty Throughout is born from a desire to help Lucy and others.

Artists

Artists include: Bill Aron, Issac Brynjegard-Bialik, Ellen Cantor, Karen Amy Finkle Fishof, Dave Fox, Gilah Yelin-Hirsh, Karyn Jacob, Tamar Kronenfeld, Pamela Mayers Schoenberg and Susan Trachman.

This exhibition is inspired by a belief in the power of art as a motivational tool. Art is used as a sort of therapy, supporting the individual, family and community in creative ways. By sharing emotions, and thus reducing inner conflicts, art preoccupies the mind, body and spirit. This takes place in a method that is dissimilar from verbal communication: a mindset to overcome.

The Artwork

Lucy Green’s pieces depict human experience. By creating a correlation within her work, she makes people feel alive and satisfied. Viewers are united with their nature and connected to their values and purpose, finding joy and perseverance within the midst of suffering. The pieces instill a sense of peace.

The other artists in this exhibition have a parallel statement. Specifically, Bill Aron has dedicated his career to displaying and searching for the many faces of the Jewish people—people tied with traditions and customs alike.

Then Issac Brynjegard-Bialik presents work that illustrates an intersection between line, shape, color and Judaism, connecting his intention with delight. Ellen Cantor makes photographs that reminisce about a collective past.

The artwork of Karen Amy Finkel Fishof speaks about a sense of safety and the peace that goes with it. Dave Fox portrays a physical journey with certain vivid details, in his paintings. Gilah Yelin Hirsch believes in the power of form (her work) to alter the psychophysiological state of the body (mind/body healing). Karyn Jacob’s pieces “weave a narrative of [her] inner life and its journeys.” Tamar Kronenfeld, in her paintings, demonstrates the principal of unity and purpose in the world. The photographs of Pamela Mayers Schoenberg show a specific Jewish community in their search for bliss. Susan Trachman’s artwork conveys the necessity of a positive mindset in the appreciation of life.

Live Performance

The Los Angeles musical trio Maetar (‘may’-tar) will perform during the reception at 1pm. The band also features Itai Disraeli (bass), Hagai Lev-Shalem Izraeli (horns), and Richard Fultineer (percussion). Maetar’s sound is a result of both Arabic and Hebrew melodies.
