Skidmore Contemporary Art is pleased to announce the sixth solo show for Los Angeles based artist, Richard Baker. “A Colorful World“ opens to the public on Saturday, February 5, 2022 with a reception for the artist from 2 – 6pm. The exhibition will feature a vibrant new collection of Baker’s crisp, realist oil paintings.
Richard Baker lives in Los Angeles and La Quinta, CA. His work reflects his personal lifestyle and interests—often focusing on activities of leisure. When asked what sets this show apart from his past work, the artist states “I have now made over 100 paintings—this body of work represents artistic growth in all areas for me including technique, materials and confidence in brushwork. My motifs are inspired by things that I see in my everyday travels. This particular work includes my travels to New York City, the Hamptons and my time spent in Los Angeles.” Baker’s process begins by capturing photographs of objects or scenery that he finds visually striking. He then takes these images to his studio where he uses them as a point of inspiration for his paintings. Known for compositions that contain vivid colors, sharp shifts in tonality and subtle geometry, Baker’s upcoming exhibition showcases the most mature examples of his work to date.
On view: February 5 – March 12, 2022; Masks and social distancing required. Be sure to check the gallery’s website for its safety guidelines and vaccine mandates (proof of vaccination and masks MAY be required).
