Vonn Sumner, Balloon Dumpster (The Party’s Over), 20” x 16”, oil on panel

Vonn Summer has always been drawn to ordinary objects of everyday life…trashcans, dumpsters, empty industrial buildings, etc. “I am interested in the way that dumpsters and trashcans contain the evidence of our lives, the things we don’t want to keep anymore, or the things that we don’t want others to see.” The artist began this series in 2019 prior to tumultuous year of covid, protests and social injustice. “By the time I completed this body of work, the world around us had shifted so much that I now see these paintings in a totally different way. Empty buildings and the signs of people on the streets have different and more urgent resonances to me now.

“Our Home” by Holly Elander features simply narrated acrylic paintings, driven by the artist’s self-proclaimed desire to understand the interactions and connections between people and nature.
