La Luz de Jesus Gallery debuts a new exhibition titled Bodywork, a group show. The exhibition features figurative artwork from the mysterious to the raunchy. An opening art party was held on March 1, 2024, The exhibition runs through March 31, 2024.

Bodywork Group Show

Bodywork celebrates feminist empowerment against internalized anxieties. Artists include: Amanda Banker, Matthew Perry, Ruby Roth and Jesse Zuo. Amanda Banker as well as Ruby Roth are showcasing pin-ups utilizing the female gaze. Matthew Perry and Jesse Zuo’s artwork embodies external and internal anxiety around identity.

Amanda Banker

New Mexico artist Amanda Banker paints scenes of feminist narratives using satire, sexuality in addition to visual polarities. These nudes explore brazen female sexuality, as well as the limitations western culture places on it. 

Matthew T. Perry

Local LA Artist Matthew T. Perry creates a body of work that re-contextualizes Cold War fear into a more vague anxious sentiment by illustrating figures from the atomic age being “vaporized” into the abyss.

Ruby Roth

Local artist and illustrator Ruby Roth explores sexuality in pin-up compositions through the female gaze in her series of Sad Cowgirls. Each figure is coquette-ish in body language and also autonomous in position. 

Jesse Zuo

New York artist Jesse Zuo embraces an attractive, yet raw side of femininity. Hence Jesse Zuo exhibits women experiencing fluctuating states of body image and loneliness.

La Luz de Jesus is a ground-breaking gallery in Los Angeles. Entrepreneur and art collector Billy Shire founded the gallery in 1986. It quickly garnered a reputation with collectors, galleries, as well as artists around the world.
