Track 16 Gallery presents sixteen new by paintings by Richard Nielsen, who often picks his subjects by looking at endless lengths of surveillance video and picking confusing images from the internet. The Los Angeles-based artist paints with acrylics on paper – always the same size paper sheet and the painting size varies depending of the number of sheets he uses to make the work. Seven of works are part of his pandemic-era mask series where he transformed selfies of friends and colleagues with their masks on into paintings. Forty-nine paintings from this series is currently on view at MASS MoCA in his exhibition This is Not a Gag. Denise Markonish, the Senior Curator and Director of Exhibitions at MASS MoCA has written an essay for Nielsen’s Track 16 exhibition (see below). The exhibition opens April 10 by appointment. Also on view concurrently at Track 16 is John Collins’s exhibition Moonlight Graham.
