In West Hollywood…

Photographer Scott Tansey will give an art talk at Leica Los Angeles today at noon. There will be a closing reception immediately following.

This event celebrateScottTansey onLocations the month long exhibitions of both “Los Angeles Panoramas” featuring the photograpy of Scott Tansey and “Pure” showcasing the work of Manuel Pandalis.

Tansey’s solo show titled features five panoramic images stitched together. His new series was inspired by his love of his bird’s eye view of the Los Angeles basin. The photographer often visited the same general location at different times of the day…allowing the light to dictate the chemistry of his subject.

He was first inspired to shoot in his hometown of Los Angeles back in 2008, but seriously considered creating a series in 2010. “On a clear day, the LA Basin is amazing,” said Tansey. “One can see the mountains all the way to the ocean. It is unusual to have a mountain range running through the middle of a city.”  http://www.scotttanseyphoto.com/

In the Miracle Mile area….

Dysonna City Art Gallery (5373 Wilshire Blvd.LA,90036) hosts an art party from 6-8pm. http://www.dysonnacityartgallery.com/

Martha Otero is pleased to present Scott Caan’s Vanity, an exhibition featuring photographs.

Over the past decade, actor Scott Caan haSat-Aug30-marthaOteros quietly garnered a reputation as an outstanding photographer. This exceptional volume is a celebration of his most recent work.

Shooting with a photojournalist’s eye, Caan captures moments that have a quiet honesty to them and a documentary feel. Caan’s images also have a unique insight into life as a celebrity – such as the book’s cover image; taken from the top of the red carpet at Cannes (where no photographer has ever been allowed) looking back at the hive of paparazzi below.

The title of the book is another subtle nod to his fame. Countering claims that he is simply indulging in ‘a vanity project’, Caan has reclaimed the word in full force with this exquisite demonstration of his talent. To me, Vanity was the perfect title. Photography is the one thing I can do where I don’t have to answer to anybody. … In a sense, it is my selfish way of saying; “these are the photographs that I like.”‘

The book features an introduction from Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo.

Off the beaten path…enjoy an art show at a retail surf/apparel shop named Clean Aesthetic who supports local artists…(love that).

dreamlandsummer slider1Tonight’s featured artists, Haunted Euth, and Tina St. Claire will unveil their newest collaborative and solo pieces as part of “Dreamland Summer” which debuts tonight.

What to expect at this show is the result of the two artists painting together both in studio and on the streets of Los Angeles for the past year. This new body of work merges their backgrounds in printmaking, illustration, and graphic design to create iconic imagery and create a visual lexicon that is definitively their own.

“Dreamland Summer” features the duo’s newest wildly colorful paintings, limited edition hand-printed t-shirts in a special collectors color way, the release of a limited edition artist’s series skateboard deck and more.
