Mount Wilson

The 2026 season of the Mount Wilson Observatory (MWO) kicks off today. Enjoy the first screening of its Matinees on the Mountain series. Disney’s WALL•E (2008) is the opening film. It has a sweet story of a lonely trash-compacting robot who discovers love and helps spark humanity’s return to Earth.

Movies to be screened as part of Matinees on the Mountain will be held in the 256-seat auditorium. Expect science fiction, silent films, as well as family-friendly favorites. Plus you can come for lunch at the Cosmic Cafe or bring a picnic. But be sure to arrive a bit early to take in the natural surroundings of the observatory. Master Harold…and the Boys at the Gil Cates Theatre at the Geffen Playhouse will be closing tomorrow. Written by Athol Fugard, the play is directed by Emily Mann & Tarell Alvin McCraney.

Two artists are set to be celebrated at the Pit Los Angeles – Anna Kunz and Maryam Yousif. There will be a walkthrough of both exhibitions at 2pm in addition to an opening reception to follow. Also Downtown…Aabee Bleue Project hosts an art talk at 3:30pm in conjunction with a current show on view at the gallery. Inside the Studio with Makan Negahban and Alex K. Scull is presented as a studio conversation. The art talk will occur as if in the artist’s studio and will spotlight Makan Negahban’s “Vitamin D” series. Moreover the artist will discuss the process, decision-making, and also how the creation of the work came about.

Also in Mid CityBrassroots District performances have now been extended through June, 2026, so the party continues. The shows take place in conjunction with its self titled album Brassroots District: LA ’74. The immersive theater-concert takes place at Jewel’s Catch One and brings audiences back to the year 1974. Moreover the band released a new single, “Takin’ Back Day Dreamin’,” featuring Robert Randolph. The release follows growing buzz around fan favorite “You Caught Me Baby.” One of our staff attended this experience and absolutely loved it. Therefore he is going back with his wife.

The Robey Theatre Company continues its run of Colored People’s Time: A History Play by Leslie Lee. The play, directed by Ben Guillory, is an examination of the lives of Black Americans from 1865-1958. This is a wonderful theatre founded by Danny Glover and also Ben Guillory.
