In Glassell Park…The Pit offers an outdoor exhibition this summer. Instead of its traditional summer group exhibition, the gallery partnered with ReDiscover Center to host summer youth art camps. In addition it launched a new series of weekly Artist Spotlights throughout the season. The Garden Show is a public outdoor sculpture exhibition across the street from the gallery at 3030 Dolores Street. It features the art of Ian Collings, Hun Chung Lee, Julia Haft-Candell, Jun Kaneko, Shana Lutker, Ben Medansky, Richard Nam, Nobuhito Nishigawara, Ryan Schneider, Nora Shields, Devin Troy Strother, and Chris Wolston. Head to Track 16 on Heliotrope Drive to partake in an East Hollywood Block Party today. David Daigle: The Death of Beauty is currently on view at the gallery Then head to other various businesses and enjoy the vibe. MWO presents a retrospective, Within Sound 2: The Acoustic Sculpture of Michael Brewster as part of its Arts@theObservatory series today and tomorrow.
The late sound and space master coined the term “acoustic sculpture.” The solo show features six of Brewster’s most legendary acoustic sculptures across four decades. There will be two performances within the 100-inch telescope dome. Each will open with an introduction by Peter Shelton, artist, student, as well as a good friend of the artist. Then Alex Schetter, responsible for programming this event in the Dome will give a short talk. Los Angeles Center of Photography (LACP) presents a group show titled Timeline. The exhibition focuses on the ever-changing world that we live in. via the photographic lens. Artists include: David Ellis, Karen Friedmann, Patricia Lemke, Julie Pawlowski, Philip Sager, Nicole Schwegman, Chris Stevens-Yu, and Xan Walker. Timeline is taking place in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Photographers came together for 8 months, to explore their worlds photographically. Additionally artists have been able to connect with other photographers as well as receive mentorship while creating long term projects.
