Discover the backroad beauty of Topanga Canyon on this self- guided two day tour of over 20 local artist studios, hosting over 50 participating artists.
Artist Robin Becker (see image, left), a Topanga Canyon resident once again participates in this year’s tour.
She discusses her process and subject matter, “I use layers of color and imagery from my photographic journeys, sometimes using images of rooms, portals, passageways, landscapes, gardens and vignettes of architectural details.” http://www.robinbeckerartist.com/
The Studio Tour hours are 10am to 5pm on Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sunday. Start at Topanga Canyon Gallery where you pick up detailed maps and additional artist information.
Go at your own pace, but be sure to get an early start….as there will be some fabulous work to see. Topanga Canyon Gallery will host a reception and silent auction on Saturday from 5-8pm.
Karrie Ross (see image, right) a member of Topanga Canyon Gallery started painting at quite a young age. She explains, “My parents were very artistic in their own ways and I got to express myself in a variety of ways and mediums; mud; hammer/nail/wood; lots of cutting of paper/gluing; drawing and painting.”
She adds, “I now paint mostly with watercolor and oils, some acrylic and currently decorate plastic bra forms for my ‘Bustiers’ series.” http://www.karrierossfineart.com
Though many of the artists do live in Topanga, many members do not. Membership is open to all LA artists.
Lisa Goldfarb, (see image, Left) who currently lives in Santa Monica, became a member of the Topanga Canyon Gallery, after going to last year’s Studio Tour. Rebecca Catterall (see image, below right) has lived in Topanga for the past thirty years and has been a member since the 90’s.
Catterall, a ceramicist, talks about working with clay, “Some is wheel-thrown, some is hand-built. I do alternative Raku, such as Ferric Chloride and horsehair. Advance tickets on sale now. Ticket price for both days, is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Admission is free for children under 16. The Studio Tour hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
