VACCan you believe, it’s the third Thursday again and time for the Venice Art Crawl. It runs from 6:30 pm till 9:00 pm. It may be a bit slow tonight….however, some events are having some fun ones that go later.

In general, I have noticed that ones that are open tend to be starting later and later Since it is a bit nippy, it may be mellow…so it’s up to us local art

Figtree’s Cafe

Start off at Figtree’s Cafe who has planned a wonderful event this Thursday from 6:30 pm till 9:00 pm. The Venice Art Crawl is a monthly event which takes place every third Thursday of each month in Venice.

Figtree’s Café has been participating in the crawl since it’s inception. Figtree’s Cafe is known for their healthy delicious food, located right on the Venice boardwalk at 429 Ocean Front Walk Venice, at Paloma Ave, two blocks south of Rose. It’s a great place to start the Crawl.

Tonight, Figtree’s Café presents a group show featuring three artists/photographers. Ana M.Amortegui, photographer, originally from Columbia, moved to the U.S. four years ago. She currently works in the film industry. (see image to right)

Illustrator and portrait artist, Peter Padmapuzzo Thompson, originally from NYC will also be featured. (see image to left) AnotherPadmauzzo photographer, Frederico Verardi, who currently works as a cinematographer, has lived all over the world and was born in a small town near, Tuscany, Italy. (See image, below right)

Complimentary wine and appetizers will be served. If you want to have dinner, you’ll receive 10% off (on food only) from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Figtree’s Café is steps from the beach. It has been a part of this Venice neighborhood for over 30 years. With a wrap around outdoor patio area, it’s a fabulous place to people watch. You may want to back track a bit to Rose to stop into the Venice Ale House who will be featuring the work of Mark Satterlee.

On they way, pop by Venice Suites, located at 2 Breeze Ave….enjoy a Christmas celebration with a Chanukah twist, with readings of original and classic Christmas poems. Enjoy live music with Ben Steinberg and Carmen Gutierez, along with poet and musician Tim Geracoulis. Poetry – both original and the odes of yore – will be performed by Cheryl Fidelman, Jessica Wilson, Joie Schmidt and the celebrations organizer, Venice resident James Berkowitz. Starting at about 7:30 pm, crawlers can listen to poetry and songs. Original artwork from Constance Brantley, Keff Pristine and Lizi Plotnick will be showcased at the Oceanfront Walk venue. Cheese and crackers, cookies, wine & eggnog will be served. The event is free.

Momentum has moved to a new location this month, to Jim Morrison’s old house located at 523 Ocean Front Walk, (between Rose and Brooks. The art show starts at 7:00 pm…but the party gets going much later…10:00 pm till 1:00 am! They are featuring the fabulous Venice artist Chase. 

Both 811 OFW and The Alkaline Water Gallery will NOT be doing something tonight.

Then continue towards Pacific Ave., and stop into James Beach at 60 North Venice, for a group show as well as the Canal Club right across the Street,

TheLooksyThen back the way you came on Pacific walk towards Windward Ave, stop by the Hotel Erwin located at 1697 Pacific Avenue. Tonight artist Lee Lucas will be featuring her original cartoon as well as her bracelet line “The Looksy.” (See image, to left) www.thelooksy.com

The Looksy is a leather bracelet/wristband with a mirror on it, perfect for a quick makeup check with a flip of the wrist. It currently comes in two styles, “Rockstar” and “Popstar” and four colors, black, white, dark brown and purple. Lucas will also be showing her original cartoon about a waitress named Pat Peeve.

Artists such as Theresa Holliday, Joey Saucedo, Phaedra Walton and more will also be featured.

Across the street, you’ll see the Gas Station, (abandoned) located at 1697 Pacific Avenue directly across from Hotel Erwin. Now there are rumors that it is not happening this month, but I bet something will start up.… check out the cool gas pumps painted by Venice’s own Jules Muck.

Then head south on Pacific Ave to Sunny Bak’s studio, located at 2214 Pacific Avenue, DeborahCuffVenice, 90291, CA. Here, you can check out the event, “NOT an ARTIST” featuring works by Sunny Bak, Deborah Cluff (see image) and Isabelle Alford-Lago.

At Danny’s Venice at 23 Windward, stop in for their drink specials, Skip right across the street to the Townhouse, (56 Windward) which always has a fun scene happening…not sure about the art but you’ll have a good time.

There you will see the Skate Car, which returns to the Venice Art Crawl this month! The Skate Car cruises Venice Streets as a giant mobile art installation expressing peace and artistic freedom. This year the giant symbol of Peace will be bigger than ever, approximately 10 feet in diameter and will feature solar-powered LED lights. The Skate Car will also be a venue for “Speakers Corner” brought to you by www.venicepaparazzi.com a free speech forum for people to talk about local topics.

Show your holiday spirit with us at the Art Crawl supporting artists, get a photo of yourself with the Giant Peace sign and tell Speakers Corner how the holidays inspire you.

1320 Main Street Studios, between Westminster and San Juan offers paintings by Craig Cartwright. Live DJ. Wine and Beer Bar with donations and BYOB welcomed. This one gets going a bit later, 8:00 pm…but goes till 11:00 pm.

ChaseThen is at the same spot as last month….The “Blue House” used to be Jim Morrison’s old house located at 523 Ocean Front Walk finally head back to the Momentum event, which, (between Rose and Brooks) ….remember the artist is CHASE….Cool!

Live music with a 7 piece funk band, 2da Light, DJs guests such as Leonard Croskey and more. ART This one usually gets happening later…10pm – 1am
