In Venice…

7Sun 9.22 MichaelBaroff DNA is Individual Dudley Cinema at Beyond Baroque spotlights filmmakers…

See image: DNA is Individual by Michael Baroff

Michael Baroff Films at 7pm (45 minutes, 2010-12) Baroff (in person) uses the camera much like a sketchbook to serendipitously record what attracts his attention while in public environments.

These unscripted visual scenes, ambient sounds and overheard talk, in which he does not overtly intervene, are then minimally edited or montaged, to create a sense of context, meaning and affect. The individual videos can be viewed from a range of stylistic perspectives including abstract, scenic, narrative, meditative, or social commentary.

BeyondBaroqueJon Clark Films at 8pm: Clark’s (in person) SPECTRUM HUNTER (2012, 32m) – Discover a collection of haunted media, a benevolent tribe of new wave witches, a Goth teenager with real magic powers, a bizarre cult that inhabits abandoned malls, & much more.

Clark’s work deals with childhood, memory, the uncanny, and the obscure corners of popular culture. Referencing an early 90s aesthetic, influenced by laserdiscs, pogs, and dark allure of arcades, this film captures the ineffable fantasy in the mind of kids that dedicated their lives to these things. Also: Clark-directed animations and music videos (2008 3m).
