The South African Arts Festival will hold its second and final events today.

CoSat 10.5 SAFestivalmmissioned by the Republic of South Africa’s Department of Arts and Culture, the South African Arts Festival features a rich mix of South Africa’s cultural production.

The event will showcase film and music. Seven South African films and six musical artists will be featured at free events in Downtown Los Angeles.

The 2013 festival will also host a series of professional film and music panel discussions/seminars. Selected by the South African Film Commission, showcased films represent the diversity of the South African film industry and include animation, narrative, and documentary works.

WU 10.6 Union-LAARTcore CARD LGAt the Union Center for the Arts, LA Artcore presents two solo shows featuring artists Kunimi Terada and Makoto Gomyo.

Kunimi Terada’s paintings depend upon interactions and interrelationships of elements that are fluid and paradoxical. The drawings and sculptures by Japanese artist Makoto Gomyo at their heart, use found objects as a method to the artist’s interest in combining literary, metaphorical, symbolic and material content into a sculptural experience.

The Museum of California Design will present its 2013 Henry Award for Outstanding Contributions to California Design to Frances Anderton in commemoration of the second decade of her KCRW radio program “DnA: Design and Architecture.”

TheSun 10.6 KingHouse0913a Benefit will include the Award presentation by Sammy Hoi, President of Otis College of Art and Design, remarks by Ms. Anderton, and live and silent auctions featuring excellent vintage and contemporary design, art and books. Beverages and a light lunch will be served. The venue is handicap accessible and there is ample on-site parking. The Henry Award was designed by Charles Hollis Jones.

The event will be held at the modern home designed in 1981 by architects Conrad Buff III and Don Hensman for Richard and Carol Soucek King on one and three-quarter rustic acres adjacent to Pasadena’s Arroyo Seco parkland. The Kings’ home has been designated a Historic Monument by the City of Pasadena and will be given to the University of Southern California’s School of Architecture to become the USC Carol Soucek King and Richard King Center for Architecture, Arts and the Humanities.
