In Santa Monica…

bG Gallery (Bleicher/Golightly/Gorman) presents “Gay Summer Rick: Series in Night and Day.” This will be the third solo exhibition at BG Gallery of paintings by Malibu artist Gay Summer Rick. For her new ‘Series in Night and Day’, Gay has created paintings inspired by her travels up and down LA’s coastline.

SSat 10.5 bGGallery GSRee image: Gay Summer Rick, “A Stop on Electric Avenue” Oil on Canvas, 40″x30″

She has stopped on roads and highways across Malibu, Santa Monica, and Venice absorbing the nighttime and daytime urban and coastal views. With palette knives and oil paint, Gay’s signature overlay of colors, which meld impressionism and abstract color-field painting, speak as much about the emotion evoked by a place as they do about the place itself. Two different cities are evoked through paint: one bathed in color and sunlight between veils of fog, and one where the color seeps in behind the darkness of night.

There is complimentary valet parking in the building during the reception (bring ticket to gallery for validation).

In Culver City…

ArcWU 10.27 Arcana alexandermqueencover.1ana: Books on the Arts hosts a book signing and reception for “Working Process” by Alexander McQueen and photographer Nick Waplington.

In 2008 Alexander McQueen commissioned photographer Nick Waplington to document the creation of his Fall 2009 collection – all the way from inception to runway showing.

Unfortunately, it was to be the last Fall/Winter collection that McQueen would stage before his untimely death. This show, which he titled The Horn of Plenty, found McQueen revisiting his fifteen-year archive of work and recycling it into a new collection. In effect, it was his personal survey of his work to date.
