In Santa Monica, Bergamot Station’s got it going on AGAIN this weekend…There are several taking place early….

Skidmore Contemporary Art hosts an opening reception for “Destination LA: A Road Trip.” The exhibition featuring new linocuts by Dave Lefner.

Dave Lefner, best known for his detailed linocuts of iconic Los Angeles neon and facades, takes his carving tools on the road to capture the American “motor inn” culture of the West.

Depicting classic motel images from sunny California, Nevada, Utah and beyond, Lefner ultimately brings it home again…as all roads lead back to LA. For the first time in a gallery, he will be unveiling his on-going “LA Alphabet” series, a sort of scavenger hunt, featuring individual letters from iconic to obscure neon signs all over this City of Angels.

bG Gallery (Bergamot Station) throws a 2nd art party and reception for “Beasts and Trees,” “Cities and Seas,” a two person exhibition featuring bodies of work from artists Suzanne Unrein and Gay Summer Rick. Both artists juxtapose the natural world with human existence.

For her current series, Gay Summer Rick traveled LA city streets, beaches and highways, stopping often to absorb the quiet vibration of life on the ‘urban coast.’ With palette knives and oil paint, her signature overlay of colors, a melding of impressionism, expressionism and abstract color-field painting, speak as much about an emotion evoked by a place as they do about the place itself.

A Second Reception will take place on October 18.

The Loft at Liz’s presents well known artist Laddie John Dill and Alain Rogier.

The “LIght Trap” series of aluminum wall pieces was fabricated using 6061 Aircraft Aluminum, most commonly used in building airplane fuselages. This material is extremely strong and contains excellent welding properties.

Alain Rogier’s work simultaneously confronts, demands and aesthetically pleases. It is filled with bold colors, confident marks, and hard edged lines mixed with sinewy organic ones that compel us to fully engage the work.
