See image: Marlene Capell, Portal VII, oil & collage on canvas, 60 x 30″

Marlene Capell’s recent abstract paintings refer to remnants of ancient structures as the source for her compositions.

Much like archeological sites, her canvases reflect the passage and process of time as the surfaces are built up with paint, layer over layer, obliterating and reworking, concealing the past but leaving hints of what came before. Ultimately, it is this evidence of the painting process that becomes the focal point of her paintings, resulting in luscious surfaces and deep, glowing color.

Mark Moore Gallery proudly presents Antiquity in the Faux, a sophomore solo exhibition of mixed-media assemblage works by artist Kris Kuksi.

SSat-Nov15-MarkMoore-KrisKuksiee image: Kris Kuksi / With Reverence, 2014 / mixed media assemblage / 25 x 27 x 7.5 inches

Oftentimes appearing as unorthodox altarpieces, Kuksi’s sculptural wall works have been heralded for their superabundance of detail and narrative – as several theatrical microcosms may converge to produce one sensory fable.

Also on view (in Gallery 2) the work of Preston Daniels will be featured. Daniels produces works that demonstrate the humanization of architecture. In Over Under, Daniels continues to explore the gestures of architectural destruction and environmental collapse through a series of installations, paintings, and sculptures – all of which employ the use of acrylics, foam, urethane and fluorescent lighting.

CHG Circa presents Nate Frizzell’s “Dark Was the Night” aSat Nov15-CHG-Circa solo exhibition of new paintings.

While the title of Nate Frizzell’s new solo show, “Dark Was The Night” is taken from the popular Blues tune of the 1920s, the new contemporary painter’s modern Californian influences are still apparent in the work that encompasses it.

Beautifully rendered portraits of everyday folks in surreal yet emotional landscapes, Frizzell’s subjects live in today’s world amongst graffiti, coyotes, and wearing Vans sneakers. This myriad of urban landscapes vs natural settings, humans vs animals, and the new black backgrounds of this work vs his usual pop culture colors, offers stirring visual examinations of the current human condition.

Head North on La Cienega…towards the mid-Wilshire area…

Los Angeles Art Association/Gallery 825 will be featuring a painting by artist and LAAA member, Linda Kosoff, at The Aurora Holiday Show.

Sat-Nov15-LAAA-LindaKosoff-pastedGraphicSee image: By Linda Kosoff, “Sisterface” Acrylic on canvas 30″x40″

Artist Linda Kosoff talks about what inspires her art…
“What inspired this painting was how I would always feel a sense of separateness with my sister despite being with her. Our body language and facial expressions depict two totally different personalities and realities. I felt that the incomplete faces were more expressive than if I had completed them–and placed the sisters in a pastoral setting to express even more distance.”

It is LAAA’s much anticipated Holiday Art Sale and Celebration featuring original works by over 100 artists at great prices.

Additional artists included are: J.T. Burke, Mario Canali, Ching Ching Cheng, Karen Clark, Betsy Enzensberger, Paula Izydorek, Linda Kunik, Heather Scholl, Jane Szabo, David Valentine, Karen Frimkess Wolff, and many more.
