The Artist’s Corner Gallery and Bookstore hosts an opening reception for “Objet Trouvé: Jerry Shevicks’s Amazing Nudie Pin-Up Show”

WU-Sat6.22 CornerGalleryAt the place where vintage photography meets pictorialism, photo artist Jerry Shevick has staked out a new territory that somehow seems sweetly nostalgic and oddly familiar. A remembered color palette from a time we think we know, seeds this artist’s body of work.  On the hunt in thrift shops and garage sales for 40’s 50’s and 60’s amateur pin up shots, Shevick has put together a coy vision of a time gone by when your grandfather would fumble with his Brownie and your grandmother would don a six-shooter and strike a pose in the backyard.

The reception will feature Burlesque performances by Miss April Showers & Miss Nadia Lotte.

Downtown LA…

L2kontemporary presents Flux, a continuation of the visual examination of objects and images in space by Los Angeles based artist Karen Chu.

See image: Shredded No. 2 Sat 6.22 L2Contemporary KarenShu ShredderNo224″ x 60″ acrylic and oil on linen 2013

In Flux, Chu’s investigation of objects and images that catch her interest starts by creating the personal structures for her visual vocabulary. The exhibition consists of several directions that are approached as examinations of visual spatial organization. In order to best explore these ideas in multiple directions, Chu refuses to be restricted to any single medium. This leads to the creation of collages on panel, paintings on linen, as well as ceramic and mixed media sculptures.
