The work of artist Karrie Ross is now on view as part of a group show at haleARTS S P A C E in Santa Monica.

ThPOW KarrieRoss Halesweet-memories-01-3in-300-1is charming gallery is run by owner, Michael Hale and gallery director, Sean Hemeon. Every two weeks haleARTS S P A C E hosts an opening and celebrates the work of local artists.

Karrie knew she wanted to show there as soon as she met Michael and Sean. She explains, “Michael and Sean are both wonderful. I like the idea of a gallery and shows every 2 weeks and their audience is a sharp business plan and well suited for the location.

Ross will be exhibiting several pieces from her Energy blooms/Drop Dot series. She talks with excitement about the upcoming show, “I will be showing my usual medium of oil acrylic pencil on canvas that I’ve been doing in volume for the past 3-4 years.”

Ross usually paints everyday. “Sometimes I wake up at 3:00 am in the morning and have to finish the painting …..almost like the painting is calling to me,” she muses.

She talks about her process as if she were in a conversation with the work. “It’s like a community that I have right here in my house, I am conversing with my community of paintings.” Ross discovers new ideas when she is busy creating. Sometimes those new ideas give birth to vast amounts of work. She explains, “Most series are usually voluminous…usually 20 or more paintings at a time. They take on different chapters, very much like a play.”

Karrie works in different medias… watercolor, acrylic, oil, pen and ink, sculpture, found objects, jewelry. She explains, “I might do a drawing where I like an image and then take it to a painting or vice-verse-a.”
