PRJCTLA hosted a closing reception for its current exhibitions – “Some Notes on Nature” by Val Kilmore; “Daniel Hawkins: Desert Lighthouse V” (solo exhibition) in front gallery; “VPAC X DLV: Plein Air Views of the Desert Lighthouse” (Group show) in back gallery. The closing event takes place on November 5, 2022 from 3-6pm.

This is Los Angeles-based artist Val Kilmer first solo exhibition with the gallery. For this show Kilmer will present a series of abstract painting and pigment prints. In these works, Val Kilmer, an accomplished poet and visual artist, explores the infinite and infinitesimal nature of organic forms and transitional elements, almost fractal, inviting the viewer to dive with him into works that unfold the familiar and open windows into foreign worlds. Painted on steel plates, the portrait-orientation of the pieces and the depth of layers create interminable shoreline edges that reference the notion of zooming into the frame. Kilmer himself has noted the “Black-Hole” nature of these pieces. The exhibition will also include a series of large scale pigment prints on paper that are derived from painted images.

This is Los Angeles-based artist Daniel Hawkins’ first solo exhibition with the gallery. “Desert Lighthouse: V “ is the third exhibition in the Desert Lighthouse Trilogy and marks the five year anniversary of the Desert Lighthouse, a 50ft fully-functioning lighthouse in the Mojave Desert near Hinkley, CA (the site of PG&E’s infamous Hexavalent Chromium spill) just miles from an active military test range.

As an augmented reality to Daniel Hawkins’ “Desert Lighthouse: V” exhibition at PRJCT LA, the Valley Plein Air Club presents a group show titled “VPAC X DLV: Plein Air Views of the Desert Lighthouse” curated by Doug Harvey.
