Skidmore Contemporary Art is delighted to announce two new exhibitions. “Courtney Murphy, A Night In,” and “Eric Nash: BLVD.”

Courtney Murphy’s new paintings are inspired by characterizations of women in classic film noir. The women she depicts are alluring and elegant in their high heels and shimmering silks, but their poses offer intriguing questions. Are the works images of the same woman, or different women? Only one face appears—in profile and turned away so that she cannot be recognized. Has she turned her head by choice or instruction?

A lifelong artist, Eric Nash graduated with a BFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He began his career in Chicago while working as an advertising art director. This experience cemented his interest in universal and iconic imagery. He works in oil and charcoal and is known as a West Coast Realist. Important influences include Pop Art, American Realism and cinematography.Nov4-2017-Skidmore-EricNash-SantaMonicaBoulevard
