On Wednesday, August 23, 2023 (at 8pm), the Hollywood Bowl presents Herbie Hancock Celebrates Wayne Shorter. This performance is part of the LA Phil’s Jazz Plus series at the Bowl, which offers an eclectic trip through the world of jazz, blues, R&B and beyond. The jazz series is curated by Herbie Hancock as well as Kamasi Washington.
Herbie Hancock & Wayne Shorter
Herbie Hancock first connected with Wayne Shorter in 1962 at a Donald Byrd recording session. Soon after, Miles Davis hired them both to play in his Second Great Quintet. From then on, they formed a bond so deep and so personal it could always be heard in the music—and in the way they talked about their friendship off the stage. In addition to special guests by his side, Herbie pays tribute to the man who not only inspired him to new heights as a musician, but who became his best friend in the process.
Guest artists include: Alex Acuña, Brian Blade, Terence Blanchard, Terri Lyne Carrington, Ron Carter, Jack DeJohnette, Marcus Miller, Carlos Santana, esperanza spalding, Kamasi Washington, and many more.
