In Santa Monica…

haleARTS is pleased to present new works by local artists Lindley Karstens and Aline Mare.

LinFri-Mar18-2016-haleARTSdley Karstens was born in San Francisco in 1961, grew up in the Midwest amidst corn fields and cows, and has spent time on both coasts since then. She has been a practicing artist for over three decades.
Working primarily in acrylics and water mixable oils, Lindley’s subjects range from surreal landscapes to abstracts, stopping along the way for an occasional figurative painting.

Aline Mare’s career began in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, coming out of a background of theatre, performance and installation art. She completed undergraduate work at SUNY Buffalo’s Center for Media Studies and an MFA from San Francisco Art Institute. The artist begins her work with hand painted transparent surfaces scratched and marked with abstracted gestures. She then combines the painted backgrounds with collected objects from the natural world.

The Kopeikin Gallery is pleased to present Photographs Rendered in Play-Doh, our first exhibition with British artist Eleanor Macnair.

Fri-Mar18-PaulKopeikin-EleanorMacnairSee image: Original photograph: Untitled, 1975 by William Eggleston

In this series Macnair uses Play-Doh to recreate images from throughout the history of photography. The original photographs are reinterpreted – simplified and transformed with vivid colour – into three dimensional sculptures which are then re-photographed and presented in the same two dimensional form as the originals.

The exhibition opens Friday March 18th, with a reception with the artist from 6:00-8:00 and runs through April 16th.

This exhibition is free and open to the public.
