Fri-Dec11-haleARTSIn Santa Monica…

haleARTS hosts an opening reception of a group show featuring the work of Danny Hall and Steve Engelmann.

Danny Hall will be showing his photography on Aluminum. Hall explains his process, “”I rarely plan shoots ahead of time. This helps me stay flexible, creatively responding to my circumstances and making adjustments on the fly as I encounter unexpected moments of inspiration. My best subjects are often unanticipated, revealed to me during personal communion with the spaces I happen to be moving through.”

Steve Engelmann was born in Santa Monica. He has become increasingly involved in the Los Angeles fine art community beginning with a solo exhibit at the Santa Monica College gallery in 2012, as well as, a number of group shows across the country. Steve frequently employs the traditional wet darkroom in addition to alternative processes. His current work explores the dysfunctional and conflicted relationship between humans and nature.

In West LA…

Fri-Dec11-Kim-Ye-2015 barbells02JAUS is very pleased to present SPORTSWOMAN, a solo exhibition by artist Kim Ye. SPORTSWOMAN represents not only Ye’s first time showing with JAUS, but will also be the first individual exhibition at JAUS in nearly 5 years, and only the second since the gallery’s inception.  Ye will be exhibiting all new works in sculpture, painting, installation, performance, and video.

See image: Kim Ye. Athleisure (dumbells). 2015. Latex, polyfil, glass & 100% silicone lubricant.

Ye’s oeuvre can be seen as reflections and manifestations of how the mind and, integral to this, the body responds to preordained constructs such as behavioral norms, human-made environments, and collective rituals. Acting within and pressing against the pressure towards orthodoxy, Ye’s work describes the latent psychic forces that provoke an individual’s desires to experience the strange, the new, and the unexplored.

On view: December 11 – January 17, 2016
