Corey Grayhorse, Roberta and Grace II, 2016, Archival Pigment Print, 48″x32″

Grayhorse designs vivid, colorful scenes full of the absurd and silly evoking a made-up reality. In a sense, she’s recreating the truth. She produces intricate worlds that incorporate her influences from art, fashion, set design and pop culture. Although these bright and multi-colored scenes appear to be lighthearted photographs, they also display a yearning for escape from certain circumstances in life.

The characters in these nearly narrative images represent Grayhorse’s own idealized, yet unattainable, version of the life and the identity she dreams of for herself. She actually describes a kind of “human expression.” “Frozen in time through photography, the work becomes a window into a fantastic dream world, with hints of my reality, to draw an audience in.” 20% of all proceeds from this online exhibition will be donated to – Food Forward.
