LACMA’s David Geffen Galleries

Mid Wilshire…LACMA’s David Geffen Galleries have finally opened. Today is the official celebration to welcome this long awaited project. Some grand opening events have already begun on Thursday and will continue through Sunday. While An Evening with Annie Leibovitz scheduled on Thursday has already sold out check tomorrow’s listing for the Genesis Talks. However today is the BIG Day. LACMA will be hosting a FREE Block Party featuring live music, tons of food vendors, as well as family-friendly art workshops. In addition to the festivities, the museum is allowing free access to the galleries – BUT you have to RSVP for a ticket, which many are already sold out by now. But come back another day and take your time to experience the new building. If you are attending the Block Party just make sure that you stay for the massive art parade to follow from 6-7pm. The art parade is curated by Jeffrey Deitch in collaboration with LACM. Deitch is known for creating New York’s SoHo Art Party which ran from 2005 to 2008. That parade was originally conceived by Deitch in partnership with Paper Magazine and Creative Time. I can’t wait to see it, it is going to be amazing. There are so many galleries and individual artists involved. It should be spectacular. FYI, since parking will be an issue, LACMA is encouraging attendees to take the D Line directly to the Wilshire/Fairfax Metro Station, which drops you off right at the museum campus; LACMA Block Party: 10am-7pm; LACMA Art Parade: 6-7pm; Both the Block Party and the Art Parade will be held on Wilshire Boulevard, and runs from Curson Avenue to Fairfax Avenue; https://www.lacma.org/
