Skidmore Contemporary Art debuts its tenth solo show for California based artist, Tracey Sylvester Harris. “Summertime” opens to the public on Saturday, July 30, 2022 with a reception for the artist from 3-5 pm. Refreshments will be provided.

The exhibition will feature a dynamic new collection of Harris’ paintings known for their bold cropped compositions and nostalgic figures. Skidmore Contemporary Art is located at internationally renowned creative arts complex Bergamot Station Arts Center in Santa Monica, CA. This exhibition marks Tracey Sylvester Harris’ tenth solo show with Skidmore Contemporary Art.

Tracey Sylvester Harris lives and works in San Luis Obispo, CA. Her works, aptly described as “sunshine noir,” speak to the central issues of human existence—desire and loss, impermanence and beauty, and the many dimensions of our connections with others. Inspired by snapshots and film stills from the mid-century, her paintings are colorful, yet bittersweet, depicting fleeting moments captured almost a lifetime ago. When asked about her upcoming exhibition, Harris states “Summertime is an inspiring subject for me. I love painting the joy and freedom of summer. For years, people and families have enjoyed summer’s longer days, time in the sun, vacations to the beach and swimming in the pool. In a way, it’s a shared experience to which most of us can relate.”
