Rain or shine….the holidays are still coming and YES the events continue (we may have to add “Singing in the Rain” to our set list)….Lets all hope by tonight, it will clear up or at least the sun will come out tomorrow….(Tomorrow, Tomorrow…it’s only a day away…remember Annie on Broadway???).
The Off their Jingle Bell Rockers perform tonight and tomorrow at holiday events…See Friday’s events for the Venice Sign Lighting. We will mostly be strolling at this event, with one song on stage.
However we will do a 20 minute set at the Shopping Cart Chirstmas Tree for the Main Street Holiday event.
See image of “The compassion tree,” created and designed by artist, Anthony Schmitt and is 33 feet tall made of 84 shopping carts with multi colored and twinkle lights.
See this week’s Santa Monica Mirror for details, plus my article about two Holiday art exhbitions taking place Dec 1st.
Don’t forget…The Pick of the Week is this Saturday. Artist Stephanie Visser’s newest show “The Inception Series” opens at TAG Gallery at Bergamot Station.
She has also participated in many group exhibitions as well as winning several international art competitions.
Although Stephanie has been painting since she was a child, she truly took her art seriously when she was just eighteen.
She informed her parents that she wanted to attend art school instead of accepting a national merit scholarship. “I was one of four girls born into a first generation immigrant family and my father, first born in the US was not exactly encouraging of an education in art,” she says.
Her parents were opposed to her quitting school and warned that they would not give any more financial help. Visser managed to do it all: follow her dream, yet also keep her family happy by getting a degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in design.
To this day…Stephanie has put her art first, despite all of life’s ups and downs. She continues, “Today I work a full time job, manage a 16 unit apartment building in West Hollywood, and paint after work and on weekends in order to pay my bills and follow my dream of being a painter.”
One of her favorte works in the show was inspired when driving in Santa Monica. She explains, “I came up the incline onto 4th street off of Ocean Park and the quality of light over the pacific was so amazing…there was a marine layer and it was about 4:00 p.m. and the sun had broken through the fog and lit the sky and the water…It was unusual and it so stuck in my head that when I started to paint, it just poured out.”
The opening reception for her current show will be held on December 1st from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Also showing as part of the opening, are Lorraine Bubar and Peter Kempson.
The exhibition will be on view from November 27th through December 22nd.
There will be an artist talk on December 15th at 3:00 p.m.
