UNDER PRESSURE Art Talk
The group show is curated by Mister CARTOON, a master of airbrush in a multitude of applications. It features a roster of eclectic artists. The artwork expands on the application of airbrush in refreshing as well as conceptual ways.
Highlighting 16 artists from a wide range of backgrounds, ages, and career positionings, UNDER PRESSURE takes into account the historic significance and also evolution of airbrush. With a range of artists who have each demonstrated new and exciting techniques in the medium, the resulting show is comprehensive and surprising.
History of Airbrush
With its pivotal moment during the Pop Art movement, early-airbrush transitioned seamlessly from its roots in advertising into an art movement. Then, by the late-1950s and into the 1960s, airbrushing became an essential aesthetic of Southern California’s most distinct feature; the automobile. Via Hollywood films, airbrushing became synonymous with individuality as well as personalization. Now, honoring the past by propelling it forward, UNDER PRESSURE celebrates the present and also the future.
