Artcore holds its 2nd part of a series focusing on an ongoing International Exchange program with Japan. Today’s event celebrates the opening of the Exchange Exhibit.
The month is divided into two exhibits, with a tandem-solo for Mitsuri Kuroki and Kakuko Ishii, August 1st through the 15th, and a group of visiting artists visiting from Kitakyushi, Japan from August 17th to the 29th.

e Robert Berman Gallery & Santa Monica Auctions host an art auction and benefit to support “Chain Reaction.” Paul Conrad’s anti-nuclear war sculpture located next to the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium is still in danger of being torn down.
“Chain Reaction,” a 26-foot tall mushroom cloud sculpture was created by Pulitzer Prize-winning political cartoonist Paul Conrad and gifted to the City in 1991.
Due to years of deterioration from the weather, this “symbol of peace” was deemed dangerous to the public in 2011 and a fence was built around it to keep people a safe distance from it. The City has left the family and supporters with the job of raising the funds to keep it standing. Although receiving landmark status, it’s still in danger of being torn down by the city if sufficient funds are not raised.

r the past year, supporters have been rallying the troops and gaining momentum. Robert Berman is one such ally and will hold an art auction and benefit to help raise funds to save the beloved sculpture. Berman has been consistently involved with the cause to save this landmark.
