A Window Between Worlds (AWBW) presents “Art in the Afternoon,” the organization’s 12th annual family-fun festival to benefit their shelter-based art programs for women and children survivors of domestic violence, May 4 at the Venice Skills Center in Venice, CA.

This year’s event aims to raise more support than ever, launching 15 new healing art programs across the country.

Hosted by star of The Disney Channel’s Dog with a Blog G Hannelius, the event features the Aquarium of the Pacific’s Aquarium on Wheels, Color Me Mine ceramic painting, signature A Window Between Worlds art workshops, Disney Channel Celebrity Autograph Signing, In-N-Out Burger® Cookout (noon-2:30pm), musical performances, live and silent auctions, face painting, and more! Kids 12 and under are always free; teens are just $20 and adults are $50. A Window Between Worlds is the only national nonprofit using art to heal the emotional wounds of child abuse and domestic, sexual and interpersonal violence. Through creative expression individuals recover a sense of renewal and power. Their images of hope, survival and strength educate the public and become “a window between worlds” for survivors taking steps to change their lives. As AWBW steps into a new tomorrow of creativity and healing, the organization is called upon to meet the highest demand for its services since their inception.

By offering comprehensive training and ongoing support to domestic violence programs wishing to use art as a healing tool, AWBW builds the capacity of shelters to offer art as a meaningful resource to survivors of trauma. In 2013, AWBW trained 71 new children’s art leaders and reached over 8,500 children. 96% of the leaders have found that the art sessions helped to reduce children’s depression, anxiety and fear levels. A ten-year-old child recently shared during an AWBW art workshop, “My artwork makes me think, feel and smile through my pain. Art is art. It’s never wrong. That’s what I love about it.”
