The artist has achieved wide acclaim for her paintings, drawings and immersive installations. Her works explore the influences of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora against the backdrop of colonial histories and narratives.

Born in Nuremberg to Polish-Jewish parents, Gustav Metzger (1926 – 2017) fled Nazi Germany to England via the ‘Kindertransport’ when he was 13. When he began his art studies in 1945, he entered a world inspired by scientific experimentation, just as the Atomic Age—in all its paradoxes—dawned. There is also an art talk (prior to the opening reception) with curator Hans Ulrich Obrist to celebrate the launch of the new publication Gustav Metzger: Interviews with Hans Ulrich Obrist (2024). Then also stop into The Garage which will cover the final stretch of ‘DRIVE’ by Jason Rhoades with a selection of framed works on paper and a major sculptural installation. Art Talk 11-12pm; Art Party: 12-3pm; Hauser & Wirth. 901 E 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90013; https://www.hauserwirth.com/

Larchmont

The Brick celebrates The Life on Earth: Art & Ecofeminism. This group exhibition is inspired by four decades of ecofeminist thought and action in art. It first developed in the U.S. out of the environmental, anti-nuclear, and feminist movements in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The movement rejected racism, homophobia, and the capitalist patriarchy. Artwork then became inspired by it. Art Party: 2-5pm; The Brick, 518 N. Western Ave. LA, 90004; https://the-brick.org
