Father’s Day is this weekend….and Uncle Darrow’s celebrates a day early…Saturday, June 14th.  Each year Uncle Darrow’s throw’s a Dad’s Day bash…If you’ve never been to its annual outdoor party…You gotta come on down.  Bring the whole family. It runs from 2-5pm.

MJune14-Uncle Darrows-FathersDayy tribute band, the Country Legends will be performing some classic country, such as Johnny Cash, June Carter, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, and lots more. We will even do some blues….Janis Joplin, B.B. King for you blues lovers.

The food as always will be exceptional. Uncle Darrow’s has been “THE” place to go for tasty Cajun and Creole classics. One of the favorites on the menu is its gumbo (served on weekends only) which spotlights the farm raised seafood. Also unlike most southern cooking…Uncle Darrow’s offer a healthier option…using chicken or turkey sausage instead of pork or beef. Expect fresh baked bread each day and great southern flavors with no lard!

Many locals are big fans of Uncle Darrow’s such as Nancy Wilding who’s been dining at Uncle Darrow’s since it first opened. “They also have a good breakfast with the best chicken breakfast sausage,” says WiIding. “I love the fact that they use chicken sausage!”

Wilding has attended several of the outdoor annual music events and insists she’ll be coming this Saturday. The outdoor events take place in the parking lot with tons of Uncle Darrow’s fans and patrons showing up to dance and enjoy the delicious food.

I had the chance to interview one of the co-owners, Norwood Clark Jr. and wrote an article about the event for this Friday’s Santa Monica Mirror.

Here’s a preview from my article: “Being a first generation family business, we are not selling a product but a culture,” explains co-owner, Norwood Clark Jr. “Take a look at New Orleans…it’s a potpourri of different cultures…that’s what I’ve been trying to attain.”

Clark along with his three cousins (Ronald Washington, Ronald Smith and Samuel L. Small, Jr.) are the co-owners of Uncle Darrow’s. His family has a long history in the restaurant business and cooked for the world renowned Commander’s Palace in the famed garden district of New Orleans for over twenty-seven years. Clark himself also worked for the Hilton family in New Orleans, back in his college days.”
